GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team will get another crack at a ranked opponent as they head on the road for a non-conference contest with No. 15 Clemson on Tuesday. The 5 p.m. game will be available for streaming on ACCNX with Noah Frary and Nick Klos on the call.
Last Time Out
The Pirates completed a four-goal fourth quarter comeback, finishing the game out in overtime for the program's first ever victory over Temple on the road on Saturday. Riley Matthiesen scored the game-winning goal in overtime after recording the caused turnover to give the team a chance at the end of regulation which led to Leah Bestany's game tying free position goal in the final seconds. Jaime Behar made 12 saves in the game including a critical stop in the first possession of overtime to give the team the ball with a chance to win.
Scouting the Tigers
Clemson enters the game on a run of blowout victories over Louisville, UAlbany and California entering Tuesday. The team is 9-4 on the year and a 4-2 clip in league play with Lindsey Marshall leading the way offensively with 46 points on 39 goals and seven assists while Brooke Goldstein paces the team with 24 assists. On the defensive side, Summer Agostino has an impressive 34 caused turnovers as well as a team-high 34 ground balls while Emily Lamparter has gotten the majority of the run in goal with 91 saves and 101 goals allowed. On the draw, freshman Kira Balis has a stunning 111 draw controls already this season, already a program record.
Series History
Clemson took the first ever meeting between the two teams in Greenville last season. After being tied 7-7 at the half, the Tigers poured on a 10-0 run in the second half, shutting out the Pirates after the break for a dominant 17-7 win. Gulden and Bestany both scored a pair of goals in the game to lead ECU.
Weekly Honors
Behar was named the American Athletic Conference's Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday for her efforts against Duke and Temple. Gulden earned American weekly Honorable Mention recognition.
Ranked Woes
Entering Tuesday, the Pirates are 0-23 all time against ranked opponents.
