GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team will look to build off of its season opening win with another home contest against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at noon on Saturday on Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium. The game is free for fans to attend and will be available for streaming on ecupirates.com for those unable to make it out.
Last Time Out
The Pirates earned a decisive win over Queens, 15-4, on Sunday afternoon. Led by Katelyn Sclafani's eight points on four goals and four assists and Riley Matthiesen's quartet of goals, the team earned the largest victory in a season opener in program history. Jaime Behar got the start in goal and played well with eight saves and just four goals allowed. Reigning conference players of the year Kayla Wilkes (2g, 2a, 3dc, 4ct)Â and Emma Magazu (6gb, 2ct) also had characteristically strong games for the Pirates.
Scouting Queens
The Chanticleers enter the game with a 2-0 record thanks to comfortable wins over Longwood and Presbyterian to open the season. Offensively, the team is led by Alexandra Horn and Nikki Seven with eight and seven goals apiece. Each player also has five assists on the year. Seven also leads the team in caused turnovers with four. On the other side, Charlotte Sadler has started both games and played the majority of minutes, making 11 saves to just 15 goals allowed.
Series History
The Pirates and Chanticleers met for the first time last season, a 15-14 Coastal Carolina win in Conway, S.C. In that game, the Pirates erased a two-goal deficit in the final minute, leveling the contest on a Rachel Chessock goal with 10 seconds remaining before falling in overtime. Gabrielle Beaudet scored the sudden victory goal for the Chanticleers. Overall, Erin Gulden and Riley Matthiesen led ECU with three goals apiece while Jaime Behar got the start in goal, making six saves.
Weekly Honors
Emma Magazu earned American Conference Defensive Player of the Weeks honors thanks to her six-ground ball, two-caused turnover outing against Charlotte. Additionally, Kayla Wilkes and Jaime Behar earned Honorable Mention nods.
Season Opening Win
The Pirates' season opening win was the sixth consecutive win in a season opener while the margin of victory (11) was the largest ever in a season opener.
In The Community   Â
The program has made it a focus to strive not only for success on the field and in the classroom, but as representatives in the community. As a team, the Pirates logged 595.5 hours of community service in the fall.
Aspire
Assistant coach Kaelin Hogan graduated from the IWLCA's Aspire Program this spring. According to the organization, "The IWLCA Aspire program was designed to enhance coaches' professional skills, capabilities, and self-awareness through the dynamic blended learning approach."
At the Helm
The Pirates are entering year three under the leadership of head coach Brittany Dipper. Dipper has compiled an 12-22 record with a marked jump from her first to second seasons building anticipation for a successful 2026 campaign.
