
Pirates Fall to Coastal Carolina, 12-8

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team was defeated by Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon, 12-8.

Coastal Carolina (3-0) got out to a hot start in the game going up 3-0 within the first eight minutes. Kayla Wilkes responded with a pair of goals for the Pirates (1-1) to cut the deficit to one, before Nikki Seven added one more to put the Chanticleers ahead 4-2 after one period.

Coastal Carolina outscored East Carolina 3-2 in the second period. The Pirates received goals from Sarah Goodison and Sophia Apple.

Wilkes completed her hattrick to start the third. However, shortly after, and in the pivotal point in the game, with 8:50 left in the third period, Wilkes received her second yellow card, putting her out for the remainder of the game.

In the fourth, Goodison tacked on two more to give her the second hattrick of her career. CJ Kuiken followed with her first goal of the season, but to no avail as the Chanticleers would hold off a late surge from the Pirates to win, 12-8.
