
Late Surge Lifts Pirates Over Phoenix, 12-9

Greenville, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team used a dominant second half to take down Elon on Saturday afternoon, 12-9.
Elon (2-1) struck first, scoring twice within the first five minutes of play to take an early 2-0 lead. East Carolina (2-1) responded quickly, as Rachel Chessock and Sarah Goodison found the back of the net in succussion to even the score at 2-2 at the end of the first quarter. Kayla Wilkes took charge in the second quarter adding two goals followed by Goodison's second to give the Pirates a 5-4 advantage going into halftime.
The Pirates took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Phoenix 5-1. A pair of goals by Chessock highlighted her career day as four players got on the score board in the period.
In the fourth quarter, Elon would fight back scoring three goals in a row before Chessock added her fourth goal to put the game to bed.
For the game, the team was lead by Chessock with four goals, Wilkes with two goals and three assists, and a Goodison hattrick. Jamie Behar got the start in cage and made seven saves in the win, along the way she recorded her 250th career save.
