GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team delivered a dominant all-around performance on Saturday afternoon on Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium, cruising past San Diego State 15-7, behind standout efforts from Jamie Behar and Sarah Goodison.
San Diego State (1-3) struck first with an early 2-0 lead behind goals from Kier Doyle-Odenbach and Mia Maechtel, but ECU (3-2) responded quickly and never looked back. The Pirates closed the half on a 10-1 run for a lead they wouldn't come close to giving up.
Kayla Wilkes struck first to open the floodgates, followed by a pair of goals apiece from Katelyn Sclafani, Maya Koebke, Goodison and Riley Matthiesen. CJ Kuiken capped the first half with a score to give the Pirates a 10-3 lead going into the break.
The Aztecs attempted to come back in the second half but were shut down by Behar who racked up 15 saves, her second most in a single game in her career, only behind 16 saves against JMU on April 26, 2025.
Goodison had a career day offensively, setting new personal bests in both goals and assists for a total of seven points. Mattiesen added another score in the second half to complete her hat trick, while Sclafani netted two fourth-quarter goals to finish with a quartet on the afternoon, tying her career high for goals in a single game.
Wilkes finished the day with a customarily full stat sheet with a goal, an assist, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
