Pirates Drubbed by South Florida, 17-4
April 18, 2026 | Lacrosse
TAMPA, Fla. - The East Carolina lacrosse team never got it going in a 17-4 loss against South Florida (RV) on Saturday at Corbett Stadium.
It started with two goals in 53 seconds, then an 8-0 lead after seven minutes, and eventually a running clock midway through the second quarter. It just wasn't the Pirates (7-8, 2-3 American) day as South Florida (10-4, 5-0 American) proved to be the class of the conference again.
The Bulls were ultimately paced by hattricks from Sofia Chepenik, Kaitlyn Tartaglione, and Maggie Newton, with Newton also notching three assists. The Pirates got goals from Maya Koebke and Sarah Goodison—two apiece—in defeat.Â
It was a lopsided game in every way on Saturday: 19-4 on the draw, 42-26 on shots, 31-16 on shots on goal, and ECU was just 10-22 on the clear, a season low percentage and a recipe for disaster.
Though turnovers were even at 15 apiece, the number is misleading with the massive draw differential, and thus possession differential, for South Florida.Â
In cage, Jaime Behar and Maeve Meehan both made seven saves with Meehan entering in the second half and allowing only one goal once she did. For the Bulls, Natalie Eastwood got the start in between the pipes and made nine saves in the win.
Though a frustrating result, the loss doesn't change the math much for ECU: a win against Charlotte next weekend, and the Pirates will book a trip to Nashville for the American Conference Tournament. With a win over Vanderbilt in their final game, South Florida will officially lock in the one seed and the regular season crown.
