GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina lacrosse team returns home one last time in 2026 to host the Charlotte 49ers at 1 p.m. on Saturday on Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium. The game is free to attend for fans and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
The stakes for the game are simple for the Pirates: win and you're in the American Conference. With a loss, the season will come to an end.
Last Time Out
The Pirates never got it going in a 17-4 loss against South Florida (RV) last Saturday. The Bulls were paced by hattricks from Sofia Chepenik, Kaitlyn Tartaglione, and Maggie Newton, with Newton also notching three assists. The Pirates got goals from Maya Koebke and Sarah Goodison—two apiece—in defeat.Â
Scouting Charlotte
The 49ers enter the game at 6-8 and 1-4 in American Conference play, finding themselves eliminated from conference tournament contention with a chance to play spoiler in the in-state rivalry game. The team is led by Isa Torres' 49 goals and nine assists while Katie Gorski had notched a team-high 21 assists. Defensively, Torres also is second on the team with 13 caused turnovers while Bella Burke leads the group with 15 to go with a team-high 31 ground balls. Olivia Andrus is one to keep an eye on with her 101 draw controls which ranks 20th in the NCAA and first in the conference. In cage, Katie Ling has gotten all 14 starts with 117 saves and a .409 save percentage.
Series History
The Pirates and 49ers met for the first time last season in the Queen City and it was a great game which ended in a 13-12 ECU win. Rachel Chessock had a day to remember with five goals in the game, including a score to put the team up three goals late in the fourth quarter, a margin Charlotte was unable to recover from. The 49ers were led by Isa Torres' five goals. Jaime Behar made 10 saves in the win while Katie Ling made 10 saves in defeat for Charlotte.

Kayla Wilkes is just one caused turnovers away from tying Emma Magazu's program single-season record (30).
Emma Magazu is just three ground balls away from Alexandra Giacolone's single-season record (46).
As a team, the Pirates are three assists away from the program record (92).
In The Community  Â
The program has made it a focus to strive not only for success on the field and in the classroom, but as representatives in the community. As a team, the Pirates logged 595.5 hours of community service in the fall.
Aspire
Assistant coach Kaelin Hogan graduated from the IWLCA's Aspire Program this spring. According to the organization, "The IWLCA Aspire program was designed to enhance coaches' professional skills, capabilities, and self-awareness through the dynamic blended learning approach."
At the Helm
The Pirates are entering year three under the leadership of head coach Brittany Dipper. Dipper has compiled an 18-30 record with a marked jump from her first to second seasons building anticipation for a successful 2026 campaign.
